## Your Pitch Is as Important as Your Script
The best scripts get passed over because the writer couldn't communicate what makes it special in five minutes.
### The structure that works
1. **One line** — A one-sentence description that makes someone lean forward
2. **The hook** — What's unexpected or fresh about this story?
3. **The emotional core** — What does this story actually feel like?
4. **The scale** — What kind of film is this (budget, genre, scope)?
5. **Why you** — Why are you the right person to tell this story?
### Common pitch mistakes
- Spending 10 minutes on backstory before getting to the story
- Describing the plot in full detail instead of its emotional arc
- Using vague words like “compelling”, “powerful”, “unique”
- Not knowing your comparables
### The Tamil cinema angle
If you're pitching to a producer in Chennai, understand their current slate. Reference comparable Tamil films honestly. Don't compare yourself to wonky international art films unless you can actually deliver that.
A good pitch makes them curious. A great pitch makes them call you back.
